Books in my beach bag

June 17, 2013

Yesterday I shared some things I wished I was packing for the beach. Today, some items I’m actually packing: Here are my beach-book selections for the week. I’ve been reading about both titles for awhile now, so I’m excited to dig in. It will be difficult to beat my last beach book: Beautiful Ruins, by Jess Walter. It’s still one of my favorite books I’ve read this year — in a couple of years, actually. We’ll see how my new selections stack up.

The Woman Upstairs, by Claire Messud. I enjoyed The Emperor’s Children and this new one by Messud is set in Cambridge, so I may be familiar with some of the places. I love books set in places I’ve actually been — makes it that much more vivid.

The Interestings, by Meg Wollitzer. This book sounded summery to me: a coming of age story following some teenagers that met at summer camp in 1974. I read Wollitzer’s The Ten Year Nap some years ago and remember liking it. (Perhaps now that I’m a stay-at-home mom myself, I should pick it up again. It may have new meaning for me.)

Can’t wait to dig my toes in the sand and start reading.
